Top trumps!

A local primary school asked WPIT if they could help their children learn all about nocturnal animals. Well a smart employee had a great idea to make them some top trump cards so they could have fun with their learning.

Other employees shared the great nocturnal animal film that they created for the BBC.

Hedgehog science!

Today we thought about different forces and the ones that we use when we are working with clay. We wondered if we were using any pushes or pulls, squashes or stretches, press or twists, drag or rolls. What do you think?

Mini digital leaders!

Today our mini digital leaders helped children from other schools to do some computing! We used the ipads, computers, beebots and probots to write and test some programs. We had a great time!

Letters

Mrs Chumley-Spencer and Winnie received some letters today from WPIT. Mrs Chumley-Spencer was not very happy when she read hers as she thought that WPIT would help, but they told her they were going to protect the bats. Winnie was very happy about her letter as she knew that WPIT would help.

WPIT realised that Mrs Chumley-Spencer might be frightened of bats and that she probably didn't know anything about them.

WPIT decided that they needed to teach Mrs Chumley-Spencer all about bats so that she was no longer frightened.

Poor Phoebe!

One of the WPIT employees had a terrible accident last night when they went out to look for the bats. Poor Phoebe had her dark camouflage clothes on and forgot to use her torch when she crossed the road. She got knocked over by a bicycle and banged her head, so had to go to hospital!  One of the WPIT employess said that she wasn't doing her job properly so should be sacked! others agreed, but Phoebe said she needed her job because she has a family. the WPIT employees had a big discussion over whether she should be sacked or not and they gave their reasons why. Lots of employees felt sorry for her - anyone can make a mistake and she had been hurt so probably wouldn't do it again.
Decision alley!
We made a decision not to sack her, then thought about her feelings about it all.
One employee suggested that we help her, so that it didn't happen again. Ashton said it would be a good reminder for everyone, because we are all forgetful. Then Darcie said we need to help remind her by putting posters, so that's what we did! We found some special clothes to help her be safe and be seen so that it doesn't happen again.

Don't go out in the dark in black!
Be safe, be seen!
Phoebe is much safer now!

Making a decision

We thought about the different opinions of Winnie and Mrs Chumley-Spencer and these were some of our ideas:

  • Bats are harmless - they need protection
  • Bats suck blood and that could kill you
  • If a bat bites you, you could get a disease
  • Vampire bats don't live in England so they can't kill Mrs Chumley-Spencer
  • Bats need special protection so they are not killed by people
  • Bats live in dark places like caves
We then had to decide whether we were going to help Winnie or Mrs Chumley-Spencer, so we had a decision alley and gave reasons why we should help one or the other.

Night vision binoculars
It was a tough decision, but the WPIT employees who thought the bats need protecting managed to persuade lots of the other employees to help save the bats. One thing became clear though, we needed to actually make sure that they were bats that Mrs Chumley-Spencer had seen. She may have been mistaken. We thought that we had better go to her house when it was dark, wearing our black camouflage clothes and taking our night vision binoculars. We also had cameras and torches to help us look around the house. We found lots of. evidence and managed to get a photograph of a bat. Then one of the employees managed to catch one! We all had a good look at it before we set it free, then wrote up our evidence notes before turning in for the night. We will decide what to do with this evidence in the morning.

The Wildlife Protection and Investigation Team!

Today WPIT had a meeting to check all that the work was being done, when they had a video message from Winnie the Witch. She seemed a little upset.

We listened carefully to the news on the radio and then had a bit of a debate about this problem. Who should we help? Winnie or Mrs Chumley-Spencer?
